Past projects – THE EUROVISION DANCE CONTEST

In 2005, along with a French performer called Marie, I staged the EUROVISION DANCE CONTEST at Nottingham Arts Theatre as part of an exhibition called PLAY.  Over the course of the exhibition people were invited to dance on a small orange dance mat to a selection of music featuring Queen, Britney Spears and the theme of the Benny Hill Show. Each performer had a Polaroid of their dancing put on the ‘Wall of fame’ and on the last night of the show we picked a winner. For winning the contest they were presented with the first ever EUROVISION DANCE CONTEST trophy.

The lo-fi nature of the dance mat and documentation was intended so that it was the people dancing and not the props or music that made the piece.  The aim of the event was to give a showcase of peoples talents (or not) and also encouraged the audience to be the art themselves.
